Product

Overview

AHK-Cu (Ala-His-Lys copper complex) is a synthetic tripeptide-copper(II) chelate structurally related to GHK-Cu, sharing the copper-chelating histidine-containing motif. It is naturally present in human blood plasma and has been identified in follicular fluid. Research interest in AHK-Cu has centred primarily on hair follicle biology, dermal matrix regulation, and skin biology applications. It is supplied at 100mg in lyophilised form.

Research

Scientific Overview

Research has investigated AHK-Cu in the context of hair follicle activation, dermal papilla cell biology, and extracellular matrix remodelling. Studies have shown that AHK-Cu can stimulate proliferation of follicular keratinocytes and dermal papilla cells in culture, and modulate expression of hair growth regulatory factors. It has also been examined in skin models for effects on collagen and elastin synthesis, and as an adjunct to topical formulation research.

Biology

Mechanism of Action

AHK-Cu chelates cupric ions (Cu2+) in a manner analogous to GHK-Cu, delivering bioavailable copper to copper-dependent follicular and dermal enzymes. Copper is an essential cofactor for lysyl oxidase, which cross-links collagen and elastin in the dermal matrix, and for tyrosinase in melanin synthesis. In follicular biology, AHK-Cu has been proposed to activate Wnt/beta-catenin signalling in dermal papilla cells, a pathway central to hair follicle cycling, and to modulate TGF-beta1 expression, which in excess contributes to follicular miniaturisation.
